Take Me Back

I wasn’t always like this,
Once I was young like you.
I can remember the thrills of my past.
I wasn’t always like this,
Recall the man you knew.
But now I find new memories don’t last.

Take me back to when I was much younger.
Take me back when things were not this way.
Take me back to when I had that hunger.
Take me back - when I knew yesterday.

I want to live life again,
The way it used to be.
Dance and play one more time with my old friends.
I want to live life again,
And form fresh memories.
Hold on to them so they may never end.

Take me back to when I was much younger.
Take me back when things were not like this.
Take me back to when I had that hunger.
Take me back to those old days I miss.
Take me back to those old days I miss.

It’s coming back to me now.
Perhaps I’ve told you before,
About the times when we had so much fun?
All coming back to me now,
Although I can’t be sure.
I think back then I used to call you, son.

Take me back to when I was much younger.
Take me back when things were not the same.
Take me back to when I had that hunger.
Take me back to when I knew your name.
Take me back to when I knew your name.

Rose of Sharon

First saw her in church on Sunday.
Then met her in a bar that Monday.
I always knew that someday,
She would be my wife.

We got married in November.
Baby on the way by December.
Lookin’ forward to September,
When we would greet a new life.

Got us a house in the country,
And planted a garden and young tree.
Thinkin’ about what was gonna be,
Our life was filled with joy.

Paintin’ a room in pink and blues.
Wonderin’ what name to choose.
Our kinfolk waitin’ on the news.
Will we have a girl or a boy?

Pretty, pretty Rose of Sharon,
Gonna spend a lifetime carin’.
Never mind this load I’m bearin’,
Pretty, pretty Rose of Sharon.

        Violin

You woke me at half past five,
Sayin’ the time had arrived,
For us to make that drive;
But we ran out of luck.

Was it the fog and the rain,
Or something I can’t explain,
That made me not see that train,
Before it clipped our truck?

Pretty, pretty Rose of Sharon,
Gonna spend a lifetime carin’.
Never mind this load I’m bearin’,
Pretty, pretty Rose of Sharon

        Violin

My Sharon’s life came to a close,
Givin’ birth to our child Rose.        A cappella - organ
For reasons God only knows,
That night I lost my wife.

And now I’m left all alone,
To raise our Rose ‘til grown,            A cappella – organ and steel
The way my Sharon had shown,
How to live a good life.

Pretty, pretty Rose of Sharon,
Gonna spend a lifetime carin’.
Never mind this load I’m bearin’,
Pretty, pretty Rose of Sharon.
Pretty, pretty Rose of Sharon.
Pretty, pretty Rose of Sharon.
